Core Energetics
As children, we are born with all of our energy in its full expression. As we mature we learn to constrict and cut off from the parts of ourselves that our caregivers are unable to tolerate, the child experiences disconnection as annihilation. Our survival depends on our attachment to and the love of our caregivers, we are not able to survive on our own.
We adapt, exhibiting the character traits that assure us of our caregiver's love. We create habits and ways of being in a relationship that, reinforced, carries forward with us into adulthood. The behaviors that kept us safe as children often do not serve us as adults and can hinder us from our pure, most authentic expression. Our unconscious lives keep us stuck, manifesting the same painful situations and circumstances; over and over again.
Core Energetics is a healing modality that works with the entire body as an energy system. Through talk, breathwork, and feeling into the emotional and physical body we attempt to bring the unconscious to light as well as risk the discomfort of the unfamiliar. This exploration allows the integration of new energies, an expanded relationship to self, and in turn, the ability to make new conscious choices.
My parents separated when I was a kid - I suffered the fallout. I grew up with strong messaging around being positive, so it wasn't until doing substantial work that I could validate the hurt or the impact - as more than negative thinking. The unconscious places I had not integrated surfaced in my adult relationships and kept me in a loop of re-creating old wounding.
I have completed a 4-year training in Somatic Psychotherapy conjointly out of the Core Energetics Institute of New York and the Radical Aliveness Institute in California. I'm currently assisting at the Core Energetics Institute in Montreal. I draw on a background in plant medicine, meditation and the visual arts.
